Charles De Gaulle Airport is named after Charles De Gaulle, the former French president. The president Charles de Gaulle led the Free French Forces during the Second World War prior to the establishment of the French Fifth Republic, the constitution under which France operates today.

In the past it was known as Airport de Paris Nord (Paris North Airport).But after the eight years of reconstruction it was re-opened as Paris-Charles De Gaulle in March 1974.Since that it is  one of the most astonishing and modern airports in the world.

There are three terminals in the Charles De Gaulle Airport. The terminal 1 is the oldest terminal and also it is situated in the opposite direction of the terminal 3.Terminal 2 has 7 sub terminals which as known as 2A-2G, so altogether CDG has 9 terminals.

Terminal 1

Terminal 1 of the CDG  airport was designed by Paul Andreu. It was built according to the image of an octopus. There is a ten floor high circular terminal building surrounded by seven satellite buildings, each with four gates which houses key functions such as check-in counters and baggage claim conveyors.

Terminal 2

Terminal 2 of the CDG airport was built in more complex structure. It divides into 7 sub terminals and they are known as 2A to 2G as mentioned above with the TGV-RER railway station. And also every terminal, including TGV-RER and CDG VAL stations, are connected to each other (except terminal 2G) and can be reached by foot (land side) or by free shuttle bus .

 Terminal 3

Terminal 3 is situated 1 km (0.62 mi) away from Terminal 1. It has separate buildings for arrivals and departures. The distance between Terminals 1 and 3 is 3 km (1.9 mi) long, and the rail station which is named as “CDG Airport Terminal 1” for RER and CDGVAL trains are only at a distance of 300 m. Terminal 3 has no boarding gates constructed and all passengers are carried via boarding buses to the aircraft stands.

Arc De Triomphe

The Arc de Triomphe  is one of the most eminent monuments in Paris. Arc de Triomphe in  Paris was ordered in 1806 by Napoleon, the French Emperor. It is the second-largest arch standing today and was the largest until 1982 when North Korea deliberately built one larger. The Arc de Triomphe costed 9.3 millions French francs, a gigantic amount of money at that time. This great arch is height  50 meters, a width of 45 meters and a depth of 22 meters

The Arc de Triomphe was construction began in 1806 and wasn’t completed until 1836, 15 years after Napoleon died. Although Napoleon never got to see the completed monument, he had a made of wood model built so that in 1810 he was able to ride through on his return to Paris with his new wife Archduchess Marie-Louise from Austria.

The top of the arch viewing platform from where you have great appearance of La Defense, the Champs-Elysées and the Sacré-Coeur. Make sure you take one of the tunnels to the arch, it is too dangerous to try and cross the street. There is no lift in the arch, so be prepared to walk up 234 steps.

The Place de la Concorde

The major public squares in Paris is Concorde. It is the largest square in the French capital. It expand Measuring 8.64 hectares in area.

In 1763,  king Louis XV was built at this site to celebrate the recovery of the king after a serious sickness. The square surrounding the statuette was created later, in 1772. The architecture was Jacques-Ange Gabriel. It was known as the place Louis XV.

It is a 23 meters tall monument in pink granite and weighs around 230 tons. In 1831, it was offered by the Viceroy of Egypt to Louis Philippe. It was only one of 3 obelisks offered by the Viceroy, but only one ended up being streamed to Paris.

Erected At each corner of the octagonal square stands statues that each symbolize a French city. Bordeaux, Brest, Lille, Lyon, Marseille, Nantes, Rouen and Strasbourg. They were fitted in 1836 by Jacob Ignaz Hittorf, while he was reformatting the Place de la Concorde. That same year a bronze fountain, called La fontaine des Mers was joined to the square. Later in 1839 a second fountain, the Elevation of the Maritime fountain, was installed. This fountain, like the first, was designed by Hittorf.
